What a friend would tell you
What BC is looking for
BC reads for values alignment with the Jesuit mission: service, reflection, and intellectual growth oriented toward others. You don't need to be Catholic, but you need to articulate why you want a school where 'men and women for others' is the operating philosophy. ED1 carries weight. Avoid generic 'I want a well-rounded education' framing; know specific programs (Portico, PULSE, Carroll School).
What students wish they'd known
The social scene is homogeneous: predominantly white, preppy, and Catholic-adjacent. If you're not interested in tailgating, Greek-adjacent social clubs, or the Boston bar scene, weekends can feel narrow. Core curriculum is rigid, with philosophy and theology requirements that frustrate students who want maximum flexibility. Chestnut Hill is suburban and expensive; off-campus social life requires a train ride.
BC might be a fit if...
- You want a Jesuit-rooted education where service and ethics aren't optional add-ons
- You thrive in a spirited, athletic community with ACC football Saturdays and strong school pride
- You're targeting finance, consulting, or pre-med and want a school with direct pipelines to Boston and New York firms

BC Campus & Culture
The Campus
BC's 175-acre main campus in Chestnut Hill is anchored by Gasson Hall, a 200-foot Gothic tower in Tuckahoe granite that's visible from miles away. The campus climbs a series of hills, with the original Gothic quad (Middle Campus) giving way to the modernist Higgins and Fulton complexes on Upper Campus. The B Line of the Green Line trolley stops at the front gate, putting downtown Boston 30 minutes away by train.
The Social Scene
Jesuit values present but not oppressive; ACC athletics and Boston location drive social life
