The Campus
Bowdoin's 215-acre campus sits in Brunswick, Maine, a coastal town of 20,000 on the Androscoggin River, 30 minutes north of Portland. Massachusetts Hall (1802) is one of the oldest college buildings in the country. The Bowdoin College Museum of Art, designed by McKim, Mead and White, houses a Walker Art collection. The campus is New England brick and granite, with towering pines and a quad that slopes toward the town. The Maine coast (Popham Beach, Harpswell) is a 20-minute drive.

Polar Bear Run
Students in bathing suits, body paint, and costumes run through campus in winter, a tradition tied to the school's polar bear mascot, chosen in 1913 because Bowdoin alumnus Robert Peary discovered the North Pole in 1909.
Winter Weekend
Dating back to the 1920s, Winter Weekend fills campus with horse-drawn carriages, broomball, snow sculpture contests, hot chocolate, and polar bear dips in the Maine cold.
